ABOUT TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGIES

With the increase of installation and restoration works of underground networks (water, sewage, gas, communication lines, etc.) in the last two or three decades, an underground environment completely occupied by installations of several services was found. Trenchless Technologies came to meet the demand for processes and technologies that could allow the installation, restoration or improvement of new networks with better quality of the services rendered.

Currently, there are associations turned to Trenchless Technologies in more than 20 countries, leaded by ISTT - International Society for Trenchless Technology. ABRATT joined this group of associations in 1999, working together with universities around the world, including the University of Sao Paulo - USP and institutes such as Instituto OPUS to make known and to support these technologies and to help in the development of labor in all levels. Currently, it offers a huge library, access to works and Congresses around the world and technical voyages. It also allows the application of associates in several modes, making easy the inclusion of all professionals.

What are Trenchless Technologies ?

Trenchless Technologies (TT or No-Dig) is the science that deals with the installation, repair and restoration of underground piping and power cables using processes that minimize or cancel the need of excavation works.

Trenchless or No-Dig technologies may reduce environmental damages and social costs and are an economic alternative for installation, restoration and repair works if compared to open-sky trench excavations. These methods are being more and more seen as a general purpose activity instead of a specialty. Many network installation contractors try to use Non-destructive Methods in all feasible opportunities, due to their costs and to environmental and social aspects involved.

Accurate surveys and field investigations are essential to ensure the success of these methods, since they minimize unexpected risks that may occur when works are being carried out.
